Check if a tree is protected

Before you carry out work on a tree, you need to check if it is protected. It will either be protected by being in a conservation area, or specifically by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO).

You can check yourself, or ask us to check for you.

Check our TPO register You can search for a TPO yourself by address, reference, year or area to see if a tree is protected.

Check our conservation area maps If you want to carry out work on a tree, you can check if it's in one of the 25 conservation areas in the Chelmsford area.

Request a protected tree check If you have already checked the TPO register and conservation areas maps, but are still unsure if a tree is protected, you can ask us to carry out a check for you.
