Josepa Munoz: Abandoned Buildings - Landscape is the archive of memory
This exhibition explores themes of time, identity and memory, underpinned by a strong sense of cultural and historical narrative. Munoz draws inspiration from the buildings which hold memories and evidence of time passing. Even when the human element has gone, the buildings continue to exist, seeming to defy us.
By camouflaging the buildings in the background, they disappear but, knowing they are still there, the paintings play with our memory and the act of forgetting.
“Painting is primarily about TIME, so it always moves beyond the subject, it becomes a subtext. Finding a coherence when working on a piece is, for me, a game of manipulating CHANCE.”
Josepa Munoz studied BA and MA Fine Arts at Cambridge School of Art. Born in Catalonia, she now divides her time between Essex and Spain.
