Narrating The Chronicles of Chelmsford At War 1939 - 1945
This talk narrates parts of the book by Andrew J Begent, which is a fascinating chronicle and insight into what really happened in Chelmsford during the Second World War.
It starts with how Chelmsford prepared itself for war and the real prospect of a Nazi invasion of England. Thousands of men women and children were evacuated from London’s northern and northeastern suburbs to Chelmsford. A defensive ring was put around Chelmsford itself and it became an important target for Nazi bombing raids, which affected not only its industry but had a deadly impact as well upon the civilian population. The various aircraft of the time will be mentioned and there shall be some real WW2 artefacts available to look at and handle.
Led by longstanding museum volunteer John. The book is available to purchase in our shop.
