The Children and Authors' Literary Fanfare and Events
Get ready for a unique celebration of all things books and storytelling as the Children & Authors' Literary Fanfare & Event returns for October half term.
On Saturday 26 October from 10.30am to 4pm, visit the museum for a fun-filled educational day with children’s authors, storytellers, artists, and heritage activities. As authors of culturally diverse books, CALFE 2024 are thrilled to share this unique opportunity featuring an array of engaging activities. Their mission is to get children hooked on books - especially those that serve as mirrors, windows, and doors to new worlds. Through engaging stories, they aim to nurture positive self-image and boost self-esteem, helping young minds grow with confidence and pride in their unique abilities, crucial for wellbeing and success.
Children will have the chance to meet and interact with talented authors and storytellers from diverse backgrounds including Jamaican, Nigerian, Black British, English, Sierra Leonean, Ghanaian, Zimbabwean, and Irish heritage. There will also be plenty of workshops and activities delivered throughout the museum.
This vibrant celebration of culture, using literature and heritage in partnership with Chelmsford Museum with support from Arts Council England using National Lottery funds. It is delivered as part of the UK’s Black History Month 2024 celebrations and is sure to be a fantastic day for families. Register for free today and secure your spot for a day of cultural exploration, storytelling, and creative workshops.
Organised by Sade Fadipe, CALFE Coordinator, with promotion partners Chelmsford Museum, Essex Cultural Diversity Project, Essex Book Festival, New Generation Development Agency Chelmsford, and Black and Being Essex (B.A.B.E.).
The museum will still be open for the general public. Please note that the Victorian Kitchen, temporary exhibition space, and the Our Chelmsford gallery will be closed at times throughout the day for the event.
