We are now fully booked for school visits in 2024. Please book now for learning sessions in the 2025 spring and summer term.
Our hands-on museum sessions and museum displays use our diverse collections to explore the stories of real local people, places and events. They provide tangible links to the past, inspire curiosity and imagination and bring learning to life.
Our sessions are linked to the National Curriculum and led by our team of experienced museum tutors. Click the orange Learning sessions tab below for full details of sessions.
We can adapt our sessions for different ages and abilities, link to specific aspects of your topic or work with you to create a new bespoke session for your specific requirements. Please give brief details on your enquiry form and a member of the learning team will be in touch.
Learning sessions are available Tuesday to Friday. They are very popular, so you should aim to book at least a term in advance.
Entry to the museum is free and you are welcome to come on a self-led independent visit, but you need to book if your group is larger than 10 people. Monday is the quietest day for a self-led visit. We also have a wide variety of object loans boxes you can borrow to bring the museum into your classroom.
If you have any questions about a session or organising a visit to the museum, just submit an enquiry form and a member of the Curator and Learning team will be in touch. Ahead of your visit, you can also view the visual accessibility guide to the museum.
