Normal opening hours

The High Street Market takes place in Chelmsford High Street every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

The indoor retail market is open: 

  • Tuesdays, 8.30am to 4pm
  • Wednesdays, 8.30am to 4pm
  • Thursdays, 8.30am to 4pm
  • Fridays, 8.30am to 4pm
  • Saturdays, 8.30am to 5pm

It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.  

Christmas lights switch-on

The market will be open from 11am to 5pm on Sunday 24 November 2024 for the Christmas lights switch on event.

Christmas opening hours

There will be a variety of traders on the High Street market each day up to Christmas, although not all traders will be available every day.

From Sunday 1 December to Tuesday 24 December 2024, the retail market will be open every day, although hours and days may vary for individual stall holders.

After Christmas Eve, the market opening and closing days are as follows:

  • Wednesday 25 December: closed
  • Thursday 26 December: closed
  • Friday 27 December: closed
  • Saturday 28 December: open
  • Sunday 29 December: closed
  • Monday 30 December: closed 
  • Tuesday 31 December: open
  • Wednesday 1 January: closed
  • Thursday 2 January: normal opening hours resume
