This is a community-based event and will provide opportunities for children and families to come and enjoy the first week of the summer holidays with our friendly team to play, create and take part in fun sports, games, arts, and crafts.

It’s similar to our Play in the Park sessions, but with more fun and activities than ever before. In addition, food trucks and an ice cream van will be on site all day so you can stay for lunch and really Picnic in the Park.

The event takes place all week in Melbourne Park in Chelmsford. The activities provide a real festival feel and include:

face painters and glitter tattoos artists
scooter and skateboarding workshop
smoothie bike workshop
Essex’s most loved party entertainer Mr B providing magic shows and balloon modelling experience
inflatable bouncy castles provided by 1st 2 bounce

But the fun doesn’t stop there. New for this year, you can visit a nerf battle arena to take on your friends, or really get that adrenaline pumping a seven-metre mobile climbing wall.

How to take part

The morning session runs from 10am to 12pm. Lunch is from 12pm to 1pm and the afternoon sessions runs from 1pm to 3pm.

All sessions are suitable for everyone, including those with additional needs.

General admission tickets are available on a first come first served basis and will depend on the event capacity. You can book your ticket now.

You can bring your own packed lunch, or buy your lunch on site. The menu for the week will include a range of hot and cold meals including sandwiches, pasta bowls, burgers and hotdogs. There will also be vegetarian options and catering for other dietary requirements.
