Riverside Leisure Centre has indoor table tennis tables, which are available to book on a pay as you go basis.

Attending

• If you have pre booked, you can tap straight through the barrier with your ourChelmsford card, sticker, fob or wristband.  
• If you need to pay for your court you will need to go to reception to pay and activate your ourChelmsford card.  
• If you have forgotten your card you will need to collect a barcode from reception or a kiosk to get through the barriers.  
• If you require use of the lift to access the first floor, you will need to go to reception to activate your ourChelmsford card. 

Lockers and changing rooms

• There is a male group changing area and a female group changing area located by studio 2 on the first floor on your way to the sports hall. 
• A Changing Places area is located by studio 1 on the first floor.   
• Lockers are located in the changing rooms by studio 2. If you want to use a locker in the changing rooms, you will need a £1 coin to release the key. You will get the £1 back when you return the key.

At CSAC you can play on our indoor tables with two or four players, and book on a pay as you go basis.

You can also join the Bat and Chat sessions.

• If you want to use a locker, you will need a £1 token from reception to release the key. You will get the £1 back when you return the token.

• Accessible changing facilities are available.  

If you love table tennis and want to take it further or if you want to just have fun, you can join a Bat and Chat session at Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre (CSAC). 

Bat and Chat table tennis sessions are a fun way to learn how to play table tennis and improve your skills in a friendly and relaxed environment. 

The sessions are led by a qualified coach who will guide you through the basics of table tennis to help get you started, along with plenty of informal games to help test your skills. Experienced players can enjoy competitive matches.

The sessions are ideal for everyone, from beginners who want to learn as well as league players. All equipment is provided. Please arrive at the centre in sportswear ready to play and bring your own refreshments.

Bat and Chat League

Our Tuesday afternoon Bat and Chat League session gives more experienced Bat and Chat players the chance to join with players from the Chelmsford and District Table Tennis League and play tournaments in graded groups of six. 

Bat and Chat players can measure their progress against league standards, and could provide a springboard to league play. Come and play against some league players, improve your skills and have fun!

Times

• Mondays, 1pm to 3pm
• Tuesdays, 1pm to 4pm (league games only)
• Thursdays, 10am to 12pm

• £4.20 per person per session

At SWFLC you can play on our indoor tables with two or four players, and book on a pay as you go basis.  

Each court booking starts on the hour and is for 40 minutes during peak times, or 60 minutes during off peak times.

At Dovedale you can play on our indoor tables with two or four players, and book on a pay as you go basis.

Bookings start at 5.10pm on weekdays and 9.10am on weekends. Sessions then continue in 40 minute increments.

We recommend that you book our sports hall activities in advance. You may be able to get a slot on the door, however we cannot guarantee availability.

• book when you visit the centre

You can book: 

• seven days in advance if you have an ourChelmsford Premium or Plus card
• two days in advance if you have an ourChelmsford Lite

Cancellations

If you want to cancel your booking, you need to cancel at least 24 hours before it starts either online or by calling the centre. We will charge you the full amount for the class if you do not cancel in time, or if you do not attend.
