Navigating the New Year at our leisure centres

With the busy post-Christmas period on the horizon, we've put together a handy Navigating the New Year guide to help you get the most out of your membership in 2025.

We offer a variety of different activities and environments for over 50s to participate in physical activity at an intensity that suits their needs.

The minimum age for classes is 14 year old, but classes marked with a * are for over 16s only.

Forever fit

At a Forever Fit class different aspects of aerobics, core stability, resistance work and circuits are included. Each week can be completely different to the next.

Low impact and low intensity, this is a perfect introduction back into exercise, or a great place to workout and make new friends. This class is exclusively for those over 50 years old.

Join your fellow class goers for a cup of tea or coffee after the class which is included in the price.

This session last for 60 minutes and is a low intensity workout.

Forever fit old school

This is a group exercise class for the over 50s where you can grapevine like it’s 1989.

You will do some retro aerobics-style exercises to old school tunes to keep it fun and keep you coming back.

This session last for 60 minutes and is a low intensity workout.

Forever fit strength

At a Forever Fit Strength class, you will focus on strength and technique as you work through different exercises with your friendly instructor.

This is a perfect introduction to strength classes, a great way to get back into exercise, or a great place to workout and make new friends.

This class lasts for 60 minutes and is of low intensity.

Young at heart

This group exercise class aims to help everyone improve their mobility, confidence and posture to aid in fall prevention.

You will work at your own pace through seated or standing for mobility, stretching and strengthening exercises. An expert instructor will be on hand at all times to advise and assess.

This class is suitable if you suffer from:  

  • Motor Neurone Disease 
  • Parkinson's 
  • Stroke 
  • Heart Bypass 
  • Joint Replacements 
  • Cancer 
  • Multiple Sclerosis 
  • Spinal Surgery 
  • Early Onset Dementia/ Alzheimer's

Our exercise classes are very popular, we advise booking in advance. 

You can:  

You can book onto classes: 

  • ten days in advance if you have a monthly membership  
  • seven days in advance if you have an ourChelmsford Plus card     
  • two days in advance if you have an ourChelmsford Lite card
  • You will need to book a session in advance to guarantee your space.
  • If you do not check-in, we will charge you the full amount for the session.
  • Please make sure that you have registered your email address with us in order to book online.
  • If you can't attend a class that you have booked onto, you must cancel at least two hours before it starts.
  • You can cancel online or via the app, by calling 01245 605666 or in person. 
  • We will charge you the full amount for the class if you do not cancel in time, or if you do not attend.
  • You will not be allowed entrance to the class if it has already been running for five minutes or more.
  • To allow time for changeovers, classes will finish five minutes before the advertised time.
  • If you want to use a locker, you can either use a £1 coin to release the key, a trolley token, or exchange the value of £1 for a £1 token at reception. This money will be returned to you when you return the token.
  • There is a male group changing area and a female group changing area.
  • Accessible changing is available.
