Your Council Tax bill 2025/26
We will issue annual Council Tax bills for 2025/26 from 3 March. If you have registered for paperless billing, we will send you an email when your new bill is available.
You should check that you can still login to our online portal before your new bill is available.
If you are paying by Direct Debit, you will not need to do anything.
If you make any changes to your account between 24 February and 3 March, you will get a separate letter or email. Changes include moving house, or changes to discounts you receive. The document advising you of your changes might arrive before your annual bill.
Your bill for 2025/2026 will no longer show the charge for Adult Social Care. This is because the rules have changed that mean this charge is now included in the total amount payable for Essex County Council.
Empty properties and additional Council Tax payable
In previous years, we charged extra Council Tax when a property had been empty and unfurnished for 24 months.
The government passed the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023. This legislation allows us to charge an additional 100% Council Tax premium after a property has been empty and unfurnished for 12 months. At the Full Council meeting on 21 February 2024, we decided to use this new legislation from 1 April 2024.
This legislation also allows us to bring in changes to charges for second homes. These are furnished homes that are not your main home. At the Full Council meeting on 21 February 2024, we decided to:
- charge a 100% Council Tax premium on these properties
- introduce this charge from 1 April 2025
