We will be carrying out maintenance work on our online system for Council Tax, Benefits and Business Rates from 9am to 5:30pm on Saturday 23 November. This means it will be unavailable during some of this period. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Scam text messages
Fraudsters are trying to scam residents, by posing as us and sending texts about a refund.
These bogus text messages ask you to provide personal information, such as bank details, to receive a refund of a few hundred pounds.
We take security very seriously. We advise residents to be alert when receiving text messages, emails and phone calls that seem to be from us, especially if they:
- tell you about a monetary refund
- ask for personal or payment information
If you are suspicious about a communication you have received from us, you can contact us.
General advice on scams
Anyone can be a victim. Scammers sound genuine, and some are very convincing.
Remember:
- if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is
- don’t be rushed into anything
- if you are in doubt, just say no
If you are unsure whether what is being offered is genuine or not, talk to a friend or family member.
If you wish to report or have any information on a suspected scam, you can contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 04 05 06. They will inform all relevant regulatory authorities.
To report a financial or investment scam you can visit the National Fraud Authority’s Action Fraud site or call 0300 123 2040.
