Apply for an environmental permit
A1 permits
You need to apply for a permit for an A1 installation through the Environment Agency.
You can look at GOV.UK to download the application forms and find out how to submit them.
Part A(2) and Part B permits
To apply for Part A(2) and Part B permits, you will need to:
- download and complete the relevant application form (from below) relating to your business activity
- return the application form to us using the address on the form or submit it online, along with the correct fee
We will not be able to process your application until we have received the correct fee.
We will issue a decision about your Part A(2) or Part B permit within four months of receiving your application.
We will issue a decision for Part B permits for dry cleaning within three months of receiving your application.
In some cases, we will not be able to make a decision within this timeframe. We will notify you if:
- we need more information
- our decision is postponed due to issues of commercial confidentiality or national security
- we need to carry out an additional consultation about off site conditions

Annual charges
You do not need to renew your permit each year, but you do need to pay an annual charge.
